Digestion Crime series of ceramics, inspired by the themes of Crimes of the Future, delves into the visceral intersection of body and evolution. Drawing from the film’s exploration of bodily mutation and the boundaries of human experience, her pieces embody a speculative narrative where the act of eating becomes a transformative process—both physically and emotionally. Each ceramic piece acts as a vessel that reflects the tension between excess and control, health and sickness, mirroring the film’s dystopian vision of human evolution.
Her ceramics are crafted with an acute awareness of the body’s potential for change, emphasising the abject and the uncanny. They invite the viewer to confront the complexities of embodiment, where feeding practices and digestion are reimagined as acts of mutation and adaptation. The surfaces of her ceramics are textured and contorted, echoing the organic yet unsettling aesthetics of Cronenberg’s work, while also incorporating elements of her ongoing research into the psychological and emotional dimensions of eating.
Dora’s practice is deeply poli-disciplinary, often incorporating photography and performance to create immersive, site-specific installations. By juxtaposing her ceramics with photographic symbols, she creates a dialogue between the tangible and the imagined, pushing the boundaries of how we perceive the body and its potential futures.
